Life in the mountains...
One of the best things about living in the Great Smoky Mountains is getting to see the abundance of wildlife that wanders through our backyard on a daily basis. This week was an exceptionally abundant in opportunities to see wildlife. First we saw a beautiful little red fox. He usually sneaks through our backyard while we are having breakfast.
Later in the day, we saw a whole family of bear cubs. Our dog Barley was not happy about the bear family being in his yard. He's only about 9 months old and is just discovering his big boy bark. Labrador Retrievers are not typically known as being particularly good watchdogs, since they are so friendly to everyone, but our boy sure told those tiny bears that this was his yard and to go away. Those cubs got the message fast and took off towards our neighbors yard.

There is a beautiful waterfall in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park called Grotto Falls. To get there you hike on the Trillium Gap Trail. It inspired my latest design, Grotto Shawlette.
This simple lace triangular shawl pattern is available on Ravelry and LoveCrafts.
This one was knit with Holly & Ivy Dyeworks, Ivy Sock yarn in the Punchy Papaya colorway, but would be beautiful in any light fingering weight yarn.
