Hitting the knitting wall
I am knitting the final block of week eight of the Kaffe Fassett Mystery Knit-a-long. This means I only have eight blocks to complete before the finishing begins. I have always heard of runners "hitting the wall" during a marathon. Myself, I have never run a marathon, which is 26.2 miles long, but have run my share of 5Ks and even completed a sprint triathlon once. They say that many runners "hit the wall" around mile 20, when their legs are tired, their glycogen stores are gone and they just want to lie down and take a nap. Experts say it's a block that you must overcome mentally. I think I'm there, well at least in knitting my afghan. I imagine a runner's legs feeling weak, feet blistered and sore, and mind drifting to more peaceful places like the beach or a hammock. I'm totally there with this afghan, legs tired, feet blistered, oh I mean wrists sore, mind-numbed. Don't get me wrong I absolutely love to knit, but this project is monumental with so many of the same stitches to knit and with all the constant color changes.
I have to focus my mind on the finish line, a beautiful blanket for my daughter to treasure for years to come. It sounds better than any muffin, fruit and finishers medal to me. I think the rest of 2015 will be devoted to much smaller projects. Do you have any great ideas for hats or smaller projects I could knit?
